Keyword Optimization Strategy

Choosing the right keywords can be the most important part of search engine optimization, as it takes a great amount of effort in properly researching the keywords for your site, and your competition. By not correctly determining the appropriate keywords to promote, you can cripple your search engine marketing campaign.

Keywords

A keyword is anything that a person is likely to type in a search engine to locate information or website's. A keyword phrase is simply 2 or more keywords entered for a search.

Targeting a single keyword is not recommended, with billions of words indexed on the web, generally one keyword will bring back too broad, or irrelevant information. Statistically, most people search on two, three or four word phrases to avoid getting unrelated matches. Try thinking like your potential customer, what phrases would they use, this is the target group of phrases you need to come up with?

Put yourself in the position of the visitor you want to attract. List what keywords or phrases they are likely to search on. This requires you to separate yourself from your product, service or website and think like a person who knows nothing about your site. It is good to ask friends or coworkers what they might type in to find your site, or even have them go to a search engine and tell them to try and find information on the topic your site happens to cover. Watch what words and phrases they use.

How We Use Keywords

At Top 10 Ranking we use keywords as much as possible to optimize your site, but we always stay clear of the spamming. We do not employ any spamming or cheap tricks to get your site to rank well. We will make sure that your site uses all of the correct keywords and also has the right amount of them in the right places.

There are different factors that come into play when search engines decide the ranking of your web page and how well your keywords rank. We have outlined some of the deciding factors below.

Keyword Density

This is the ratio of the amount of times a keywords appears on the page and in the HTML to the amount of other words. For example, if there are 100 words total for the web page and the keyword appears 10 times, then the keyword density is 10%. Keyword density is used by most search engines in their algorithm for ranking website's, and is also an effective way of determining what keywords to use for a certain page. As a result of people knowing that this is in their algorithms and then spamming by using hidden text and other methods, the search engines will penalize your web page if the keyword density is too high.

The keyword density percentage varies significantly from industry to industry. There is no acceptable common range to be used to determine what is the right/correct keyword density you should use on your website. We utilize a technique that will research the “acceptable” keyword density specifically for your industry, one keyword at a time.

Keyword Weight

This is the measure of how much importance is put on a particular keyword. This measurement varies from search engine to search engine, as they all apply their own algorithm which determines their ranking.

Keyword Relevancy

This is merely the measure of how relevant your keywords are to the subject matter and content on the web page this plays a major role in themes, as they are a big part of the search engines algorithm for ranking a website. A good way to make sure that your website has good keyword relevancy is to never include a keyword in your meta keyword tag that is not on the page.

Keyword Proximity

This is the measure of how close each keyword is in relation to another keyword. Keyword Proximity is also used in certain search engines algorithm for ranking a website. Throughout the web page is not the only place where keyword proximity comes into play, it is also a factor in the title, description, the keyword meta-tag, and other places through the body of the webpage.
